Modern, handheld spray guns are versatile and lightweight tools designed for small to medium jobs, if you are looking to do airbrush nails or even for cake decorating then this is the perfect tool for you. It includes a flow regulator, viscosity cup and can be used when it comes to both oil and water paint, providing you with total control of your painting job. Here are five useful tip to perfect your airbrushing skills.
MIND YOUR DISTANCE:
When using your airbrush, it is recommended that a distance of 25-30 cm from your surface is generally used. This will help you with maintaining control when you need to apply an even and nice coat, in addition keeping a consistent distance will help with neat work as even a small change will make a huge difference. For instance, if you halved the distance between the spray gun and the surface area, this would mean you are applying paint 4 times faster.
TEST AND TRY
Your spray gun should include three settings for flow regulation and a narrow tip accessory like the Air Brush found at The White Market. You should experiment with these settings to find the perfect rate of application for the job you are working on. It is generally better to put your paint on too light in the beginning. This is helpful as if your paint is to light it can be easily fixed with an extra quoting of paint rather than having applied it to dark where it cannot be fixed. Furthermore, if you apply too much paint you may overload your surface where with a heavy paint job there is a high probability it may peel.
KEEP IT MOVING
Spray guns deliver paint at a rapid speed, if you leave the gun in one spot when applying paint, the paint will run which will in turn create an uneven coating. to prevent this start moving your airbrush before you start applying the paint, keep the airbrush in motion using long, straight movements all at once.
PLAY IT STRAIGHT
Tilting the sprayer up and down will result in an uneven coat, moving the airbrush in an arc may feel natural, but this will result in a 'bowtie' effect, with the application of the paint getting darker and narrower towards the middle of the arc.
KEEP IT CLEAN
If you notice an unusual change in the way your paint is applying, clean the nozzle as this maybe affecting the amount of paint coming through the sprayer due to paint build up overtime. This will remove any build up that may be interfering with your painting for a more clean and more smooth finish.
Above all else it is important to invest in and practice your technique with the help of high-quality spray guns which gives you a clean, nice, smooth finish.
